They didn't all wear big collars like Elizabeth I! The Renaissance was the period shortly after the medieval ages, when Elizabeth was on the throne. Much of Renaissance fashion was very beautiful. It was intricate and rich, especially for the upper-class who wore deep, grand colours of gowns with sweeping skirts and very tight corsets! They coveted powder to achieve a pale complexion and most had long hair, some had it down past their waists!

Renaissance Fashion
They didn't all wear big collars like Elizabeth I! The Renaissance was the period shortly after the medieval ages, when Elizabeth was on the throne. Much of Renaissance fashion was very beautiful. It was intricate and rich, especially for the upper-class who wore deep, grand colours of gowns with sweeping skirts and very tight corsets! They coveted powder to achieve a pale complexion and most had long hair, some had it down past their waists!
Regency Fashion
Think Pride and Prejudice, lush English countryside, romantic courtships with handsome gentleman (Mr. Darcy!). The Regency took inspiration from Grecian style dresses with high waists and pale, understated colours. These could be very flattering on women making them look tall and slender, though some men thought they were too revealing! Most dresses were white, had a tight band just below the bust, small bell sleeves and a square cut neckline. Match that with a parasol and a fan and you have a lovely combination for any picnic or ball!
Eighteenth-Century Fashion
The 1700s were a feast of colour and grand fashion design. Never before had fashion been taken to such heights, literally! Some of the women's hairstyles towered above them, making it very hard to walk quickly or dance. Marie Antoinette and Georgiana Cavendish were fashionistas of the day and wore highly decorated high heeled shoes, dresses which flared out sideways rather than back to front and had lots and lots of colour and patterns! This was really a beautiful era of fashion, lush and rich and ever so indulgent.
Victorian Fashion
Now, now, don't cringe. The 1800s were a delicious era of fashion, we just don't get to hear it so often. The most amazing thing about the 1800s was how much it changed! In the 1850s it was all about massive skirts flaring out all around them and then in the 1880s it was about skin-tight corsets and bodices with large bustles out the back of the dress. I love this era of fashion, especially the 1870s which saw a return of the bustle (which I think is a pretty awesome piece of underwear ) and more attention paid to ladies' waists. The bustles, though they seem silly now, were very flattering and made the women look feminine and slim.
